Executive Summary

Buy Uganda, Build Uganda (BUBU) is a government policy that was approved by Cabinet in 2014 and launched in 2017 to promote the consumption and procurement of goods and services produced locally.  This will en­courage foreign and local investors to produce locally; improve capacity of local producers to supply govern­ment, enhance the quality and competitiveness on the local and International market, create jobs and drive the country to achieve middle Income status.

The BUBU Promotion Project

The current COVID 19 pandemic has forced social distancing guidelines upon BUBU companies, Government and the public. This also forced the BUBU EXPO 2020 to be postponed.

The BUBU Promotion project (e-conferences & exhibitions) is a reaction to social distancing. Even as BUBU stakeholders are unable to engage physically, we shall continue to facilitate favorable mind-sets and build increasing awareness of BUBU brands and products among the BUBU stakeholders, Government and the public.

The BUBU Promotion Project is a s ix (6) m o n t h s c a m p a i g n ( August 2020 –January 2021) f o r promoting BUBU products, championed by Investment Review Publications in partnership with various media houses, supported by the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Cooperatives to:

1.   Effect positive mindset change towards BUBU brands and products.

2.   Build increased awareness about BUBU brands and products using communication and events

3.  Create market and sales for BUBU products using communication and events

4.   Encourage and build patriotism in the general public.

The BUBU Promotion project will include

Bi -weekly events carried on various media platforms including Television, Radio and Internet (social media et al) for six (6) months. A special BUBU Promotions magazine will be published after the promotion.

Television

  • The bi-weekly events will include a one (1) hour television programme on NBS and UBC with live social media interactions. (see attached schedule)
  • A featured BUBU manufacturer and another guest BUBU manufacturer
  • A live on-location video profiling of the featured manufacturer during the e-exhibition & conference
  • A guest speaker from Government MDA
  • Other stakeholders linked via Zoom

Radio

The monthly radio events will include a one (1) hour talk show programme on Capital FM, Star FM Radio West, Rupiny and Etop with live social media interactions (see schedule attached).

  • A featured manufacturer and a guest manufacturer
  • A prerecorded short clip (5-10 mins) of the featured manufacturer
  • A guest speaker from Government MDA

    BUBU Promotion Magazine

    A BUBU Promotions special magazine will be published featuring all the participating BUBU

    companies, MDAs and media houses at the end of the promotion period. Five thousand (5000) copies

    will be circulated free to the stakeholders and general public.

    The entire program is designed to effect a positive mindset change towards goods Made in Uganda

   (BUBU brands and Products) which are often seen as poor quality.

Expected Results

  1. Favorable mind-sets and increased awareness of BUBU brands and products
  2. Enhanced knowledge of BUBU products especially quality, price, distribution.
  3. Total visibility of BUBU brands and products.
  4. More understanding of the BUBU policy and role of Government
  5. It’s a platform for the public to appreciate and support BUBU as a Government Policy.

Advantages

  1. Its a platform for Manufacturers to showcase and detail merits of their products to the multitudes of Television viewers, Radio listeners, Newspapers and magazine readers.
  2. Appreciation from producers, investors especially SMEs (both local and foreign) for creating a platform to showcase and market their products.
  3. It will be a platform for Government to get good feedback from investors and the general public on how to improve services and the policy.
  4. It will be a platform for facilitating favorable mindsets and visibility of all products Made in Uganda
  5. Motivation for BUBU companies to improve quality and capacity to compete with imported brands and products.
  6. Government will be able to sensitize the public and get the masses to rally behind the BUBU policy

Conclusion

The BUBU Promotion Project( e-conference & exhibition) will be one of the biggest media promotions in Uganda this year mainly due to the fact that the prevailing social distancing restrictions brought on by Covid-19 have forced BUBU stakeholders, Government and consumers on to television, radio, newspapers , magazines and internet platforms for their social interactions.

The promotion is expected to reach over twenty (20) million BUBU stakeholders, Government and consumers through television, radio, internet platforms, magazines and newspapers. It will also go a long way in changing unfavorable mind-sets, that local products are bad and of poor quality.

The promotion will effect positive mindset change towards BUBU brands and products for companies’ growth and national development.

The following are the sponsorship packages and their respective value for money analyses

PLATINUM SPONSORSHIP UGX 120,000,000/‐ (ONE HUNDRED & TWENTY MILLION SHS)

The Platinum sponsor(s) will be visible on ALL the live scheduled e- events (e-exhibition & conference). As the featured BUBU manufacturer (SIX times) and subsequently through spot adverts and social media before, during and after the e events

  • The Platinum sponsor(s) will be recognized as the Anchor sponsor(s) before, during and after each bi weekly BUBU promotion e-conference & exhibition
  • The Platinum sponsor(s) will get a live on-location video profiling of his products and services during the e-exhibition & conference
  • The Platinum Sponsor(s) get 126 advert promos over six months, including own adverts and event adverts on NBS TV, SANYUKA TV, NEXT FM , SOCIAL MEDIA ( schedule to be worked out with client)
  • The Platinum sponsor will get 15 advert promos including own adverts and event adverts on UBC TV through the week each time the Platinum is to feature on the e-event. ( schedule to be worked out with client)
  • The Platinum will get a 25 minute guest appearance on the UBC TV Good Morning Uganda programme in the week when the Platinum is to feature on the e-event
  • The Platinum Sponsor(s) will get six (6) television promotion e- conference events throughout the 6 months promotion. Three (3) on NBS, Three (3) on UBC( schedule to be worked out with client)

The Diamond sponsor(s) will be visible on ALL the live scheduled e- events (e-exhibition & conference). As the featured BUBU manufacturer (FOUR times) and subsequently through spot adverts and social media before, during and after the e events

  • The Diamond sponsor(s) will be recognized as a sponsor(s) before, during and after each bi weekly BUBU promotion e-conference
  • The Diamond sponsor(s) will get a live on-location video profiling of his products and services during the e-exhibition & conference
  • The Diamond Sponsor(s) get 42 advert promos including own adverts and event adverts on NBS TV SANYUKA TV, NEXT FM , SOCIAL MEDIA over six months ( schedule to be worked out with client)

The Gold sponsor(s) will be visible on ALL the live scheduled e- events (e-exhibition & conference). As the featured BUBU manufacturer (TWO times) and subsequently through spot adverts and social media before, during and after the e events

  • The Gold sponsor(s) will be recognized as a sponsor(s) before, during and after each bi weekly BUBU promotion e-conference & exhibition
  • The Gold sponsor(s) will get a live on-location video profiling of his products and services during the e-exhibition & conference

The Silver sponsor(s) will get TWO guest appearances alongside a featured Platinum, Diamond or Gold sponsor during an e-conference event. The Silver sponsor will enjoy 30 minutes on the live e-conference & exhibition event.

  • The silver sponsor(s) will get Two (2) television promotion events throughout the 6 months promotion. One (1) on NBS and UBC. ( schedule to be worked out with client)
  • The silver sponsor(s)) will get three (3) Radio promotion events throughout the six (6) months period (Radio West 1, Rupiny 1 and Etop 1). ( schedule to be worked out with client)
  • The silver sponsor(s) will get one (1) Full Page advert in the BUBU Promotion special magazine.
  • The silver sponsor(s) Company logo will be prominently displayed in event adverts during the week a silver sponsor is set to appear on a live event)
